Many people in Woodbridge, Vaughan, Brampton, Kleinburg, Mississauga, and the Greater Toronto Area are considering an EV as their next new car. However, it’s also true that plenty of people are on the fence about swapping internal combustion for electric power. The all-new 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV could be the model to get some of those people off the fence and into a fully-electric compact crossover with a familiar name.
It’s not unusual for new electric vehicles (EVs) to launch in one or two high-spec versions, which leads many people to think EVs are too expensive. GM is going down a different route with the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV and offering models to suit a broad spectrum of shoppers and budgets. There’s no such thing as a “cheap” Equinox EV, as all models are high-quality and well-equipped with standard features. But you can get into an Equinox EV for a very affordable starting MSRP, but only if you reserve early, as demand will likely outstrip supply.
You have five versions of the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV to choose from. The lineup starts with the Equinox EV 1LT, which is a stunning-looking compact SUV with an impressive list of standard features. From the base model, you can move up to the 2LT, 2RS, 3LT, and top-of-the-range 3RS. The high-spec models are packed with standard equipment and the latest technology. However, lower trim levels are still generously equipped and represent a value-for-money proposition that’s hard to beat in the segment.
Electric vehicles are quite a significant departure for those brought up with internal combustion engines. The first questions shoppers will likely ask about a new EV revolve around batteries and powertrains. Regardless of which Equinox EV trim level interests you, practicality is unlikely to be an issue. The most affordable version of the Equinox EV has a driving range on a single charge of 400 kilometers, which is considerably more than the average driver requires for their daily needs.
The estimated output of the base powertrain is 210 horsepower and 242 lb.-ft. of torque, and once you go above the base 1LT, a bigger battery becomes part of standard equipment that increases the range to an impressive 482 kilometers. Dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions of the 2024 Equinox EV are also available, estimated to increase output to 290 horsepower and 346 lb.-ft. of torque. Dual-motor all-wheel-drive models have an estimated range of 450 kilometers, a small penalty for such a considerable performance uplift. Fast charging up to 150 kW is available and can add an extra 112 kilometers of range to the battery in 10 minutes.
The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV would be a stylish, practical, and affordable compact SUV regardless of its powertrain, but it would still have to offer more than just zero-emission driving to be successful. The base model comes with standard 19-inch alloy wheels, 11-inch screens for driver information and infotainment, front and rear automatic emergency braking, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, automatic high beams, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. The main reason to move up a grade to the 2LT is for the larger battery and greater range, but it also gets you a front LED light bar and the option to upgrade to AWD and add some more advanced safety features from the options list.
The 3LT and 3RS models have standard AWD, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, reverse automatic braking, a heated steering wheel, 21-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, and a 17.7-inch diagonal touch-screen. GM’s Super Cruise is also available at 3LT and 3RS levels for a degree of autonomous driving on divided and compatible highways.
The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV is far more than another new compact crossover SUV. The Equinox EV is a model that could change how you drive and think about driving forever.
