The 2023 GMC Yukon isn’t the only full-size SUV you’ll see in Woodbridge, Vaughan, Brampton, Kleinburg, Mississauga, and the Greater Toronto Area that’s this big and capable. But the Yukon presents its immense capability and versatility in a stylish, comfortable, luxurious way with immense presence that puts it in a class of its own. And if the standard Yukon isn’t quite enormous enough for your needs, there’s also an extended wheelbase Yukon XL with even more space inside for passengers and cargo.
There are many ways to configure a 2023 GMC Yukon or Yukon XL to meet your specific taste and requirements. There are five trim levels to choose from: the SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The SLE and SLT are rear-drive models with four-wheel drive offered as an option, and the three other models in the family are exclusively four-wheel drive here in Canada.
Another big decision you’ll need to take when ordering your new Yukon or Yukon XL is what goes under the hood. There are three options: a 5.3-litre V-8, a 6.2-litre V-8, and a 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesel. The 5.3-litre V-8 is standard for the SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali trim levels, and it provides the Yukon with 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. The 6.2 is standard with the Denali and Denali Ultimate and available for the AT4, and this one develops 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque. The 3.0-litre diesel produces 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, and all Yukon configurations send their power to the wheels through a ten-speed automatic transmission.
Off-road capability isn’t always the first consideration for shoppers looking for a vehicle to carry up to nine people across three rows of seats, so the 2023 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL reserves its finest off-road prowess for the AT4 trim level. As well as its standard four-wheel drive system, the AT4 comes with Traction Select System, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, and Autotrac 2-speed transfer case.
And if you want to up the ante further, the AT4 is also available with an Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (eLSD). The system utilizes the vehicle’s sensors and driver inputs to work out the optimum amount of engagement for driving conditions. The eLSD splits the available torque between the rear wheels to provide enhanced stability and maximum traction. Of course, the AT4 doesn’t forgo the Yukon’s sensational road manners at the altar of off-road prowess.
There isn’t much you could ask of an SUV that the 2023 GMC Yukon can’t handle. Whether you’re leaning towards this truck-based body-on-frame SUV for its seating capacity, cargo-carrying prowess, or impressive maximum tow rating, there’s much more to the Yukon and Yukon XL than its outstanding numbers. Then again, those numbers should be noticed too, as the Yukon and Yukon XL can carry up to nine people, offer up to 4,097 litres of cargo volume, and tow up to 3,810 kg. And even when all the seats are in use, the Yukon XL still has a cavernous 1,175 litres of cargo volume available behind the third row.
The 2023 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL are sensational vehicles with immense presence, all the capability you could ask for, and loads of comfort, luxury, and high-tech features thrown in for good measure.
