You’ll see many three-row SUVs around Woodbridge, Vaughan, Brampton, Kleinburg, Mississauga, and elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area that are undeniably practical. Unfortunately, they can also be massive, thirsty, expensive, and less-than-stylish. As long as you don’t need to accommodate three NBA Centers in the third-row seats regularly, the 2023 GMC Acadia is a stylish, desirable, versatile, and premium midsize SUV that seats up to seven and doesn’t have to break the bank to buy or to run.
You won’t be confronted by a confusing array of different models and specifications when you’re ordering or configuring a 2023 GMC Acadia. Four trim levels are available that cover a range of specifications and budgets, but everything is very straightforward and easy to understand. The first model in the family is the entry-level SLE, which doesn’t look or feel anything like a base model, and many shoppers will be delighted with its standard specification.
The second model available is the SLT, and after that, the lineup goes to the AT4 and top-of-the-range Denali. The AT4 is very close to the SLT specification, apart from off-road styling cues that give the midsize GMC a strikingly different look. There’s no such thing as a two-wheel drive Acadia in Canada, as all four trim levels get AWD as part of their standard specification.
Unlike its smaller sibling, the 2023 GMC Acadia does offer shoppers a choice of engines. The standard power unit is a thoroughly contemporary 2.0-litre turbo-four that provides this midsize crossover with 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. If you prefer something more powerful and perhaps more traditional, the alternative is a 3.6-litre V-6 which then gets you 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 2.0-litre turbo-four is standard with SLE and SLT versions of the GMC Acadia. But if you opt for an AT4 or a Denali, the V-6 is what you’ll get under the hood. However, you can have an SLE or SLT with the V-6 if you want because it is available as a cost option. Although there’s no two-wheel drive option, the Acadia’s standard AWD system does have a two-wheel drive model to save a little fuel when the extra capability isn’t required.
Good value for money can be challenging to find when shopping for a new three-row SUV. But despite its premium style and generous standard specification, the 2023 GMC Acadia can represent excellent value for money. The SLE may be the base model, but it delivers far more than what you’d consider a basic specification. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloys, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, front and rear park assist, and automatic emergency braking. Only shoppers will be satisfied with the SLE standard spec, especially the impressive list of active and passive safety technology.
Pay a little more for the SLT, and you can then enjoy a Bose premium 8-speaker audio system, navigation, LED fog lamps, and perforated leather upholstery. Apart from the V-6 engine, the AT4 is very close to the SLT specification, except for the addition of some attractive off-road styling cues, such as 17-inch Gloss Black alloy wheels. The 2023 Acadia Denali lives up to its justified premium reputation with an 8.0-inch multi-colour reconfigurable driver information screen, heated and ventilated driver front seats, a head-up display, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and more.
You will find bigger three-row SUVs with more specious interiors than the 2023 GMC Acadia. However, they will cost more to buy and run, and do you need the extra size if you’re not carrying seven adults most of the time?
