And it’s a similar story with hauling, as the Silverado has a maximum payload capacity of 1,030 kg.
Of course, it’s not just how much a truck can tow and haul; it’s also essential to know how easy it makes it for the driver. The Silverado 1500 makes hauling easier with its Multi-Flex Tailgate, which is available for all trim levels and offers six different functions to help improve loading, unloading, and accessing cargo you have in any of the Silverado’s three sizes of bed. And there are lots of standard and available features to assist towing, including HD Surround Vision, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, Auxiliary Trailer and Bed View cameras, and more.
The standard engine for the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is an ultra-contemporary 2.7-litre turbo-four. Some people might assume a small-displacement engine wouldn’t be enough for a full-size truck like the Silverado, but the turbo-four puts out 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque, which is more than adequate for many half-ton applications. If a more traditional large-displacement unit is what you’d prefer, the Silverado caters to those needs with a 5.3-litre V-8 that ups the power ante to 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque.
Serious towing requires plenty of torque, and that’s where the following two engines come into their own. The first is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel that develops a relatively modest 277 horsepower but a substantial 460 lb.-ft. of torque, which is what you need for regular heavy towing. The last of this powerful quartet is a 6.2-litre gas V-8, which provides the Silverado 1500 with 420 horsepower and the same 460 lb.-ft. of torque as the 3.0-litre diesel. As the eight-speed automatic transmission is discontinued for the 2023 model year, every 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Most trim levels are standard rear-wheel-drive, although four-wheel drive is available throughout the lineup if it doesn’t already come as part of a trim level’s standard specification.
There are nine or six trim levels to choose from with the 2023 Silverado 1500, depending on whether you want rear or all-wheel-drive. The range consists of WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ, and range-topping High Country trim levels, although the Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss, and ZR2 trim levels are not available in a rear-drive format. Every model comes with far more than just the basics, and some of the standard and available tech is seriously impressive.
The LT trim level delivers an excellent blend of capability, features, and value for money, especially for retail shoppers. Standard features include a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, remote start, keyless open and start, four USB ports, and a couple of 120-volt power outlets. A big tick in the positive column for the LT is it’s the first trim level in the range with Chevy’s excellent 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a Google-powered infotainment system with a 13.4-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
