The Chevrolet Colorado was already the go-to midsize pickup truck for many shoppers in Woodbridge, Vaughan, Brampton, Kleinburg, Mississauga, and the Greater Toronto Area, but the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado is looking to set the bar even higher. Competition is fierce in the midsize truck segment today as more people discover the benefits of these smaller trucks. Chevy has risen to the challenge in a big way with this all-new, third-generation 2023 Chevrolet Colorado, which will become apparent when you investigate further.
The Colorado was a popular midsize truck in North America long before this size of pickup became as popular as it is today. After all, it’s always been an attractive truck that was more than capable of fulfilling various roles and applications. It’s probably fair to suggest that the changes to the exterior styling are more evolutionary than revolutionary, and the Chevy is still instantly recognizable as a Colorado. The headlights and taillights are thinner than before, a new front grille adorns the face, and a ridge down the hood dips towards the lights to promote a sporty and aggressive aesthetic.
There are five trim levels to choose from in the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado family. They start with fleet-focused, no-nonsense WT, but retail buyers are likely to begin considering the Colorado one trim higher at LT. The 2023 Colorado gets increasingly desirable from that point, with the Trail Boss, Z71, and the sensational ZR2 at the top of the range.
There’s no need to scratch your head about which cab or bed length to choose for the new Colorado because Chevrolet has simplified things considerably. Simplification is achieved by making all five trim levels the same basic configuration, which means a crew cab with a short bed and a single engine throughout the lineup. Some might suggest that sticking with a standard configuration reduces choice. But as this configuration has always accounted for the vast majority of Colorado sales, it’s a move that makes perfect sense. Anyway, the five trim levels are quite distinct, and you’ll be amazed at how different the Chevy Colorado can look and perform, depending on the specification.
Under the hood of all versions of the 2023 Chevy Colorado is a 2.7-litre turbo-four engine with 237 horsepower and 259 lb.-ft. of torque available in its standard form. However, that’s just a starting point: the Trail Boss and ZR1 trim levels get a Turbo Plus version of the powerplant tuned to put out 310 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. The ZR2 goes even further with a Turbo High-Output version with 40 lb.-ft. of additional torque. Regardless of the engine or trim level, the power gets sent to the wheels through a new eight-speed automatic transmission with quicker downshifts than the unit it replaces.
How many of them are available to you will depend on your chosen trim level, but up to five different driving modes are available for negotiating a variety of surfaces and circumstances. The five drive modes are Normal, Tow/Haul, Baja, Terrain, Off-Road, and Tow/Haul, with the latter helping to deliver an impressive maximum towing capacity for the midsize Colorado of 3,493 kg (7,700 pounds).
Many people choose trucks of this size as a replacement or an alternative to an SUV or sedan, so the Chevy Colorado has most of the features you’d expect to find in those vehicles as standard or available. Off-road capability is likely to be the focus for many Canadian buyers, and that’s an area where the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado comes into its own, especially in ZR2 form. The Z71 features the 310-horsepower Turbo Plus engine, 18-inch full-gloss Dark Android painted aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires, an automatic locking rear differential, and hill descent control. The ZR2 then takes the truck’s off-road credentials to the max with a high-performance 3-inch lifted suspension and 3-inch wider chassis, an off-road performance display, electronic locking front and rear differentials, the Turbo High Output engine, and all five drive modes that include Baja.
If you’re shopping for a new truck and a full-size offering is too much for your needs, the all-new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado comes close to full-size capability in a smaller, more economical, and more maneuverable package.
